The Bedside Consult

The Bedside Trust partners with organizations to help them discover the root causes of their operational problems, and how to solve them with relational answers.

We’re a group of physicians and CEOs that have studied and worked the floors of many diverse healthcare organizations, where we honed our ability to correctly diagnose foundational problems challenging, if not crippling day to day operations.

Although every organization has their unique challenges to overcome, they all find themselves spending too much time reacting to an overwhelming number of initiatives with quick fix bandaids while feeling the constant pressure of achieving unachievable goals. Business as usual feels like a Whack-a-Mole game at best...a game with significant costs. Physician engagement deteriorates, out-migration increases, employees disengage, and quality of care and patient safety suffer greatly.

Our outside-in perspective immediately recognized that all of these problems were grounded in failed relationships/partnerships. Individual agendas, no matter how noble or effective, has people moving in thirty different directions to solve the same problem. There was no “working together for the common good”...no Community Intelligence. It’s like a computer with thirty effective software applications and no operating system to run them.

That’s what led us to design a concrete system that actually optimizes and leverages relationships to work together and become self-organizing. Every healthcare provider works in a system with firmly established, time-tested ways. Physicians, for instance, have always relied on the same disciplined clinical approach to treating patients...the history, the physical exam, the differential diagnosis and a treatment plan. They all know from experience, that whenever they don't "nail the diagnosis" any treatment is not only ineffective, it’s likely inefficient and potentially unsafe. Over the past few years, the Bedside staff discovered that this clinical discipline approach also works to tackle most any complex organizational problem.

We've modified the four simple steps of the medical workup into a Relational Workup.  This powerful tool helps executives, physicians, frontline staff and all interdisciplinary teams diagnose and treat even the most unsolvable problems in your organization. Our Cultural Operating System defines the current state of organizations, identifies the root causes of their problems, and provides the relational tools and guidance necessary to overcome all of your operational challenges.
